Gerardo Ayala Solano is Head of Offer Data Engineering, Data Science and Innovation at Amadeus in France. The part-time Executive MBA in Business & IT with a modular structure has been the perfect fit for him not only because of his career goals and learning expectations but also in his professional life. Commuting from the south of France to Munich or St. Gallen has been smoother than he ever imagined. In a short interview, Gerardo shared with us how his Executive MBA journey been so far.
Why did you decide to pursue the Executive MBA in Business & IT at TUM?
After two years of research and preparation I selected the Executive MBA in Business and IT at TUM because it offered me the perfect fit between my career goals and learning expectations with a strong focus on IT, Leadership and Business knowledge.
I wanted a new challenge before my 40th birthday that could bring a profound transformation on my personal and professional life. TUM is renowned for its excellence in research and educational programs. Additionally, TUM’s EMBA accreditation was a guarantee for me on the program quality but also on the degree’s international recognition.
What has been your most valuable gain from the program for you and why?
The modules of the Executive MBA in Business & IT are organized in a way you can get the best learning experience. For me this was translated into a broader business knowledge and leadership skills that help me improve my collaboration, problem solving and decision making with marketing and other business domains resulting in more value delivered to the organization in shorter time.
Recently, I have been promoted to a senior key position on a strategic area for the company.
How did the part-time program fit into your professional life?
For each module, I had to travel from the south of France to Munich (or Saint Gallen) and I am surprised how smooth it has been for me to attend the program.
Something I really love from the program is that it takes place during the entire work week which gives me the opportunity to be at home during the weekend and to focus on my learning during the work week. There is enough time between modules to properly organize activities at the office and at the same time, put into practice the learnings from the program at my workplace the week after.
We all know that priorities can quickly change, the program flexibility allowed me to re-organize some of the modules to cope with the changing environment at the office (and at home). In other words: Just the perfect fit! It is like the program was tailored for the challenges I was facing module after module.
