The job description of a data scientist, for example, has only developed with the emergence of large amounts of data in recent years. This is why the forecasts for the most important “future skills” are also a point of reference for the jobs of tomorrow.

The EU Year of Skills training initiative

The European Union has recognized the importance of continuing education and lifelong learning. In May 2023, the EU Year of Skills was launched – an EU-wide initiative to promote vocational training. This is because the future viability of the European economy is closely linked to the continuous development of (future) skills, particularly with regard to demographic change.

Focus on the five up-and-coming “future skills”

In the first article in our “Future Skills” series, we presented this year’s “The Future of Jobs Report 2023” published by the World Economic Forum. The report, published in May 2023, is also exciting for us in the further training of specialists and managers. This is because it shows which future skills are important for various industries. The order of the skills that will be relevant by 2027 has changed only slightly in the ranking of the top 5 future skills compared to 2023. Position three is new – technological skills:

1 – Analytical thinking

2 – Creative thinking

3 -Technological literacy

4 – Resilience, flexibility and agility

5 – Curiosity and lifelong learning

The skills in places 1, 2, 4 and 5 are core skills that are already in demand today. Read our first article on the topic of “Future Skills”. The World Economic Forum predicts that the importance of these future skills will continue to increase. What is particularly relevant for us as part of the Technical University of Munich is that technological skills are becoming even more important. This is because digitalization and mechanization are continuously advancing both socially and economically.

Our training programs support your technological expertise

Technological expertise covers a broad spectrum of knowledge: On the one hand, we train managers with a non-technological background so that they can assess critical key technologies (e.g. IoT, advanced manufacturing, distributed ledgers technologies, AI, quantum technologies) and set the right course for their companyOn the other hand, specialists can deepen and expand their existing technological skills with our continuing education program. These include established technologies that require skills such as software development, as well as new developments that require knowledge of data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), for example. After completing a course, participants have the latest specialist knowledge and can apply it in a targeted manner.

We are aware of the growing importance of technological expertise. That is why we always focus on current technology trends in our course programs and introduce participants to the basics or in-depth application of various technologies.

EuroTeQ University Alliance: Future skills for engineers

Together with five other European technical universities, we are working as part of the Technical University of Munich on the further development of a Europe-wide study campus for a joint transfer of research and knowledge, also involving industrial partners. Within the framework of “EuroTeQ ‘, professionals have the opportunity to take short interdisciplinary training formats, so-called ’micro-credentials”.
