Executive MBA in Business & IT
Class of 2025
For Christopher Copony, growth begins where comfort ends. As a Senior Consultant in IT project management, his journey through career transitions, bold ambitions, and continuous learning exemplifies the transformative power of embracing change and pushing boundaries. “I firmly believe that growth and success lie outside of one’s comfort zone,” Christopher shares. This philosophy has guided him through pivotal career milestones, including his decision to pursue the Executive MBA in Business & IT at TUM.
Christopher’s professional path has been anything but conventional. After leading a small team in a self-employed sales role within the finance industry, he took a leap into IT consulting. “One of the most challenging milestones in my career was transitioning into IT consulting,” he recalls. “I had to take a step back, leave my comfort zone, and immerse myself in an entirely new professional environment.” The process demanded to rebuild his technical expertise and leadership skills, while adapting to a highly dynamic industry. But through persistence and adaptability, Christopher has grown into a professional who thrives on tackling complex challenges and delivering strategic value.
This drive to continuously evolve underpins Christopher’s educational and career choices. “Even though I consider myself rather young, I already aspire to be a lifelong learner,” he says. Guided by creativity, diligence, and a passion for impactful communication, he defines success as leaving a meaningful footprint: “Accomplishing something relevant and fulfilling while helping others grow along the way.”
In his current role as a Senior Consultant, Christopher has broadened his focus to include strategic initiatives alongside operational responsibilities. Internally, he supports business development efforts and contributes to shaping strategies that align with emerging trends in AI-driven projects. “My long-term goal is to transition into strategic leadership roles in IT and AI,” he explains. Christopher was inspired to attend the Executive MBA at TUM because the advanced reputation and unique profile of the program aligned with his career aspirations. “The program’s unique focus on the intersection of Business & IT was particularly compelling,” he notes. Moreover, the opportunity to study in one of the great institutions like TUM, HSG, and UC Berkeley was equally appealing. Most significantly, the chance to learn from professors who are nothing short of world-class and interact with a network of like-minded professionals has truly transformed his experience.
When asked which part of the program has had the most significant impact so far, Christopher points to the ‘Strategy & Organization’ module. “It has deepened my understanding of how to align technology and business strategy effectively,” he says. Additionally, lessons on leadership and change management have proven invaluable in his work, enabling him to contribute more effectively to business development efforts and support the strategic direction of AI initiatives within his organization. Looking back on his journey, Christopher describes it in one word: transformative. “The Executive MBA has been a catalyst for both personal and professional growth,” he reflects. It has not only provided him with invaluable tools and knowledge but also shaped the way he addresses challenges and opportunities in his career: with greater confidence and perspective.. While the journey is still ongoing, Christopher sees it as an essential step forward in building the skills and network needed to achieve his aspirations.
