Please note that for the admission process, only the bachelor’s degree is relevant. It does not matter if you have already obtained a master’s degree within the EU.

Admission process

All applications must be submitted on time and in full in order to be considered equally. As there are several rounds of applications, we generally consider all applications from one round first before moving on to the applications for the next round. The sooner you submit all your application documents correctly, the sooner we can give you an admission decision. Are you ready to apply? Let’s go!

Step 1: Apply online

Both national and international applicants must register on TUMonline to start their application process. Read more on the online application at TUM or watch TUMonline video tutorial.

In addition, all applicants who obtained their Master entrance qualification in a country outside the EU/EEA, must apply for a verification document via uni-assist. You can have your documents reviewed by uni-assist e.v. at any time of the year. An on time application to uni-assist for prospective students is strongly recommend. At peak periods, especially in the summer months, the uni-assist process can take up to six weeks to complete. After uni-assist has completed its evaluation, you will receive a notification which you should submit in TUMonline along with your application documents.

Special conditions for certain countries: Applicants with a Master’s degree from China, India, or Vietnam must consider additional requirements set by TUM. More information on this can be found below. Please note that these additional processes can sometimes take up to 6 months or longer. Therefore, we recommend that you get informed with the requirements applicable to you in a timely manner and start with the necessary steps. This process is conducted independently of your application to TUM and cannot be influenced by it. Submission of these documents is mandatory to process your application.

Step 2: Upload of all application documents via TUMonline

Please upload the following documents as PDF files:

  • Complete and current resume/CV, without chronological gaps, on a monthly basis and in English. Every month since secondary school should somehow be accounted for. If you have been on a time-off for a period of time, you may provide details such as relocation, job search, family or caregiving responsibilities, travel, etc.

  • Proof of at least three years of relevant full-time professional experience, e.g. by confirming references from your current and/or previous employer on their letterhead and signed by a person responsible in the HR department or your team lead. Your contact details including role as well as the exact start and end dates of your employment must be explicitly stated. Internships do not count as full-time professional experience. In the case of self-employment, an extract from the commercial register or a confirmation letter from co-founders or co-directors is required.

  • Subject and grade transcript of the first university degree, including all passed modules, ECTS and the final grade. Even if you already have a Master’s degree, the transcript from the first university’s degree must be submitted.

  • Copy of your valid passport or ID (complete / both sides).

  • If the original documents (e.g. academic degree documents or confirmation of professional experience) are not in English or German, please attach additionally a certified translation of the documents.

  • If required, preliminary review documentation (VPD) by uni-assist.e.v. In our experience, this process could take up to six weeks, therefore we highly recommend to start with the process and apply to the program as soon as possible.

  • In addition, only for the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation program, please upload an Essay on TUMonline.

Please find detailed information about the requirements of the documents in TUM Glossary of Documents and the TUM FAQ’s.

Step 3: Admission interview

Once your application is fully completed and approved in TUMonline, you will receive feedback as soon as possible, generally within six weeks after your application is complete. If you fulfill the central TUM requirements and pass the first stage of the application process, we will invite you for a personal admission interview in virtual format.

The admission interview will be conducted in English by our selection committee, which consists of professors, our program management team and admission manager. During the interview, alongside English skills, the applicant’s motivation, dedication, abilities and experiences will be assessed. For the Executive MBA in Innovation & Business Creation entrepreneurial skills will also be evaluated.

Step 4: Enrollment at TUM

After the successful completion of both stages of our admission process and the formal acceptance of the study place, further documents will be required to complete your enrollment at TUM.

Please upload the following documents as PDF files in TUMonline:

  • Passport style photo (for your Student ID)
  • In addition, if you under age of 30: Proof of health insurance
  • In addition, if you have previously been enrolled at a German university:
  1. Certificate of enrollment from the most recently attended university.
  2. Transcript of records of the semesters studied in Germany including all subject-specific information, and, if applicable, time-off semesters.

Additionaly, please send the following documents, ideally all in a single envelope, per post to:
Technische Universität München, Studierenden Service Zentrum, Abteilung Bewerbung und Immatrikulation, Arcisstraße 21, 80333 München

  • Original signed application for enrollment (electronic signatures are not accepted). You can print the application from TUMonline.
  • Notarized hard-copy of the degree certificate of the first university degree.
  • Notarized hard-copy of the diploma of the first university degree.
  • Special conditions for certain countries, if you have completed your first university degree (Bachelor or similar) in China, India or Vietnam you need to be aware of additional requirements (e.g. Original APS Certificate).

As soon as you have accepted the study place, please pay your semester fee in full directly to TUM.

Only after your student fee has been paid and all documents have been submitted you will be officially enrolled as a student at TUM. Once you are officially enrolled, you will be able to print your student documents (e.g. enrollment certificate and enrollment record) and will receive your Student Card.
